Photo upload guidelines — for vendors & buyers

TorZon’s rule is “use your own product images” — which sounds obvious and still gets broken daily. Bad photo hygiene is one of the easiest ways to de-anonymize a vendor. Here’s the field-tested checklist:

Before upload

Strip EXIF: use exiftool -all= file.jpg or the built-in "Remove properties" on Windows. Phones leak GPS by default.
Neutral background: no window views, no mail, no pets, no reflections in chrome surfaces. Reflections in a kettle have busted people.
Consistent lighting: daylight is fine, but don’t accidentally photograph outdoors — shadows reveal location and time.
No unique textures: a unique floor tile or bedsheet pattern is a fingerprint across listings.
Resize: 1280×960 is plenty. Huge images = more metadata = more fingerprintability.

For buyers

If the product photo is stock imagery or obviously from another market, ask. Vendor should reply quickly.
Ask for a "sign" photo (username + date on a paper) if the vendor is new. Most legit ones will do it once.
